With so many carpeting options available today, it can be hard to know which is best for your flooring project. Plush carpet is one of the most traditional of carpet choices, yet it remains one of the most popular thanks to its incredibly soft feel and amazing versatility. Today, plush carpet comes in an almost limitless array of colors, patterns, and styles. Here, Floor Coverings International Vancouver/Portland will take you through the basics of plush carpet, as well as its best uses, to help you decide if it’s the right style for your home!
Plush Carpet Basics
To understand the makeup of plush carpet, it’s good to first understand pile. “Pile” refers to the fibers that form the surface (attached to the backing) of the carpet. Plush carpeting has a relatively high, evenly cut pile with a slight twist to each fiber. The pile is quite noticeably more dense than other styles, which gives plush carpet its iconic softness. One downside to plush carpet is it has a tendency to show footprints and vacuum tracks. If this is a problem but you still want a plush-style carpet, you may want to consider purchasing one with a textured surface. Alternatively, you could also select carpet with a higher pile, such as frieze, which is a trackless carpet style (doesn’t show marks).
Where to Use Plush Carpeting
Plush carpets are relatively low maintenance, making them a popular choice for busy homeowners. Most modern plush carpets are also pretreated to resist soil and stains, which contributes to their durability. However, because of their tendency to show footprints and vacuum tracks, some homeowners choose not to install plush carpets in areas that experience more foot traffic. Plush is ideal for less frequented rooms in Vancouver and Portland homes where comfort is of high importance. This is why many people choose to install plush carpet in their bedrooms.
