Floor Coverings International – serving the greater Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR areas – is your local solution for engineered hardwood flooring. Engineered hardwood refers to flooring that is created with a core of 3-5 layers of hardwood, and is then covered with a surface layer of hardwood veneer. This cross-grain, multi-layered structure makes engineered hardwood very tough and stable.

Our team of flooring specialists is prepared to help you from start to finish during the purchase, design, and installation of your new floors. We have many years and a wide variety of experience under our belt, so you can trust that we will be both professional and knowledgeable about your flooring project.

Advantages & Disadvantages

Engineered hardwood is a great product because it is resistant to heat and moisture. You can install engineered hardwood on any level of your home without worrying about warping and weather damage. Engineered hardwood won’t contract, expand, or dry up – even if you install it in your basement or in an area with radiant heating.

On the other hand, engineered hardwood is at a disadvantage when it comes to scratches and scuffs. Engineered hardwood can’t be sanded and refinished too many times before it loses some of its quality or wears too thin. So, if you are expecting your hardwood floors to receive a lot of scrapes and scratches, you may want to consider solid hardwood flooring instead.

We carry all of the major brands and common species and styles of hardwood flooring, including some more exotic and rare options like African and Brazilian species.
